I made the first one for Abby.

I'm John. I design and make every KAPLA Art piece myself, in a studio in Marin. It started with one dog and a problem I couldn't solve any other way. So I'll just tell you the whole story.

When we said goodbye to Abby, I couldn't bring myself to leave her behind when we moved. So she came with us in a drawer, then a box, then another drawer. For years.

I went looking for something better. An urn that felt worthy of her, that could sit out in our home without announcing itself to every visitor. Everything I found was wrong: cheap, tacky, pet-shaped things with names and paw prints plastered across them. Nothing that looked like it belonged next to the things we actually loved.

So I made one.

That's what KAPLA Art is; pieces for people who felt the way I did. Beautiful enough to keep out. Private enough to be just yours.

A place to remember them.

KAPLA Art isn't about where the ashes go. Plenty of people scatter them, bury them, or never had them at all. It's about keeping a companion close, a place for them, made by hand, one at a time. That's the whole idea.
